Overview

Features & Applications

The ASI-16 All Sky Imager is an automatic camera system with a 180° field of view, utilising a 5MP camera and 'fisheye' lens with an anti-reflective, airflow protected, quartz dome.

An integrated ventilator and heater system, dual side surge protection, and wide operating temperature, among other features, position the ASI-16 as one of the most reliable all-sky cameras available, suitable for use anywhere on earth.

Developed by CMS-Schreder, the ASI-16 All Sky Imager is recommended and sold worldwide by EKO for remote sensing, weather and cloud observations, atmospheric research, supervision systems, aircraft-based observation systems, and other applications.

The system can be used for cloud coverage and cloud type analysis, with cloud base height (CBH) and cloud motion functions. It delivers high-resolution HDR images of the sky and clouds as pre-scheduled network stored JPGs and as a live video stream. It's also a powerful cloud detector and can also take clear full hemispheric pictures of the sky during daylight, even under full sunlight conditions.

The ASI-16 includes a dedicated sensor interface to connect temperature and humidity sensors, plus an optional pyranometer.

Data Access

The ASI-16 is designed to connect to a data server, a local hard drive, NAS, FTP or Cloud server. The standard ASI-16 control software is based on a Web browser user interface. Settings, image access and updates can all be accessed via the onboard software and the secured CMS server. The ASI-16 also includes a 2GB onboard memory backup in case of network communication interruption.

The optional Trinity software can also analyse cloud coverage and cloud classifications for photovoltaic evaluation applications. Cloud base height (CBH) can be measured with two ASI-16 cameras and optional CBH software.

The CBH software allows for the evaluation of cloud height in real-time. A stereoscopic method is applied to process time synchronised images of two sky imagers and the local data (latitude, longitude, and elevation).

With the optional cloud motion function, the speed of clouds and direction can be determined, the first step for cloud forecasting research.
